| Descrizione del dritto | Youthful, beardless head of Heracles facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, with the beast's gaping jaws framing the top of the head and the paws knotted at the throat. The facial features are idealized and finely modeled, with curling locks of hair visible beneath the lion-skin headdress. The broad, irregular flan is characteristic of posthumous Alexandrine coinage struck at Temnos. No legend appears on the obverse. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left on a low stool-throne, his nude torso draped from the waist, holding an eagle perched on his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre upright in his left. In the left field, an oenochoe (wine jug) facing left appears above a monogram and the letter alpha (A), serving as mint control marks specific to the Temnos issue. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right side of the field, identifying the coin as struck in the name of Alexander. The composition follows the canonical reverse type established under Alexander III. |

Struck at Temnos, a small Aeolian city on the Hermos River in western Asia Minor, this posthumous Alexander tetradrachm belongs to a wave of civic coinage produced after the collapse of Seleucid control in the region following their defeat by Rome at Magnesia in 190 BC. With the Seleucids driven back beyond the Taurus Mountains by the Treaty of Apamea, numerous minor cities briefly asserted minting authority under the Alexandrine type — the most universally trusted silver coinage in Mediterranean trade. Temnos was among the smallest of these opportunistic mints, which makes Price-attributed examples from this city considerably scarcer than contemporaneous output from Pergamon or Smyrna.
