| Descrizione del rovescio | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left upon a low stool-throne, his upper body nude and muscular, a himation draped across his lap and lower limbs. His outstretched right hand supports a perched eagle with closed wings, while his left hand firmly grasps a long upright sceptre. In the left field, a bow and quiver serve as the mint control symbol identifying the Amphipolis issue. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs to the right of the throne, denoting the coin's issue in the name of Alexander III (the Great), with the overall composition rendered in the assured, classicising style characteristic of the earliest posthumous Amphipolis tetradrachms. |
