| Obverse description | Youthful, beardless head of Heracles in right profile, wearing the Nemean lion-skin headdress, with the scalp drawn over the crown and the forepaws knotted at the throat. The musculature of the lion's muzzle and pelt are rendered in fine relief, framing the idealized facial features with deeply cut eyes and full lips. The border consists of a raised bead-and-reel pattern encircling the flan. |

Struck at Amphipolis in the years immediately following Alexander's death in Babylon, this issue falls within the contested regency period when Perdiccas held nominal authority over the empire on behalf of Philip III Arrhidaeus. Amphipolis was the principal Macedonian mint and continued striking in Alexander's name well after his death — a deliberate political act to project continuity during a succession crisis that would ultimately tear the empire apart.
