Obverse description Right-facing youthful heroic head of Herakles in three-quarter relief, wearing the Nemean lion scalp helmet, the lion's muzzle visible over the forehead and the paws knotted at the neck. The finely modeled facial features display idealized Hellenistic artistry characteristic of the early Amphipolis mint issues. The musculature and flowing mane of the lionskin are rendered with considerable detail, and the coin's broad, slightly irregular flan is enclosed within a plain border.
