| Opis awersu | Facing right, the youthful head of Heracles portrayed in three-quarter relief, cleanshaven and idealized, enveloped in the scalp and paws of the Nemean lion skin headdress, the jaws framing the crown of the head. The rendering is executed in the fine Hellenistic style, with curling locks of hair emerging beneath the lion skin at the temple and nape, and naturalistic facial modeling conveying heroic vigor. No legend is present on the obverse, the entire flan being devoted to the portrait. The die-work reflects the accomplished engraving tradition of the Mysian mint issuing in the name of Alexander III. |
