| 表面の説明 | Youthful heroic head of Heracles facing right, depicted without beard and enveloped in the Nemean lion-skin headdress, the scalp drawn tightly over the crown with the paws knotted at the throat; the finely modelled facial features display a strong jaw, prominent nose, and parted lips in the Hellenistic tradition. The lion's gaping maw frames the top of the head, with the mane rendered in bold, deeply cut striations falling across the neck and shoulder. The whole is set within a dotted border on a broad, slightly irregular flan characteristic of posthumous Alexandrine coinage struck at Ephesos. |

By 200 BC, Alexander's name had been dead for over a century, yet cities across the eastern Aegean continued striking in his type — partly for commercial convenience, since Alexanders circulated without friction across the Hellenistic world, and partly because local authorities lacked the political weight to impose a recognized civic coinage. Ephesos had its own strong mint tradition but clearly found the posthumous Alexander a practical vehicle during this unsettled period following the weakening of Seleucid grip on Ionia.
Müller 1025 places this issue firmly within the Ephesian series identifiable by specific control marks used to distinguish the city's output from the flood of imitative Alexanders circulating simultaneously.
