| Beschrijving keerzijde | Lion standing right with left forepaw raised in a pose of alert dignity, a motif emblematic of Smyrna's civic identity. The magistrate's name, identifying Hermippos son of Sipylos, appears in the exergue below the ground line. The entire design is enclosed within a wreath of oak leaves and acorns, a characteristic framing device of Smyrnaean civic tetradrachms of this period. The ethnic legend ΣΜΥΡΝΑΙΩΝ is prominently displayed, asserting the issuing authority of the city. |
