| Beschrijving voorzijde | Turreted head of Tyche facing right, her hair rendered in loose flowing locks falling behind the neck, wearing a mural crown with multiple towers depicted in fine relief. The portraiture is executed in the Hellenistic style characteristic of late second-century BC Ionian coinage, with well-modelled facial features and an expressive profile. Smyrna's late Hellenistic civic tetradrachms issued under the authority of named magistrates — stephanephoroi — are among the more precisely attributable provincial silver issues of western Asia Minor. Hermippos, son of Sipylos, served as eponymous magistrate during this decade, his name and patronymic stamped into the coinage as a form of civic accountability. The practice tied individual magistrates to the monetary output of their tenure, which had real consequences: adulterated or underweight issues could be traced back to a specific official.
The Milne, Rhousopoulos, and Weber references all converge on this type without significant die discrepancy, suggesting a relatively contained issue.
