The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic Severan artistic style, with individualized portraiture typical of the Antiochene mint. The surrounding Greek legend reads AVT K M A ANTWNEINOC CEB, identifying the emperor by his adopted dynastic name Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. The flan is irregular in shape, as is common for hammered provincial coinage of this period. |
