| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, with finely engraved hair beneath the laurel wreath and paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic Severan artistic style, with individualized portraiture typical of the Antiochene mint. The surrounding Greek legend reads AVT K M A ANTWNEINOC CEB, identifying the emperor by his adopted dynastic name Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. The flan is irregular in shape, as is common for hammered provincial coinage of this period. |
