The goddess holds a laurel spray in her right hand and a bow in her left, while behind her a stag stands to the left, its head raised to nibble at a branch. The magistrate's name legend EΠI ΠOΛYKPATOΣ flanks the figure on either side in the field, identifying the issuing eponymous magistrate Polykrates. The composition and incuse square treatment are characteristic of the Abderite monetary series of the mid-fourth century BC. |
