The creature's head is turned alertly with an open beak, its forelegs extended forward in a characteristic Abderite pose. The city ethnic ABΔHPI appears in Greek letters above the griffin in the upper field. The treatment of the griffin's musculature and plumage reflects the accomplished engraving tradition of fourth-century Thracian coinage. |

| Descripción del reverso | Artemis standing facing, draped, wearing a kalathos upon her head, set upon a high architectural base within a shallow incuse square. The goddess holds a laurel spray in her right hand and a bow in her left, while behind her a stag stands to the left, its head raised to nibble at a branch. The magistrate's name legend EΠI ΠOΛYKPATOΣ flanks the figure on either side in the field, identifying the issuing eponymous magistrate Polykrates. The composition and incuse square treatment are characteristic of the Abderite monetary series of the mid-fourth century BC. |
