| Obverse description | Diademed and horned head of Demetrius I Poliorcetes facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with sharply individualized portrait features. The hair is elaborately arranged in thick, wavy locks swept back from the forehead, with a royal diadem tied around the head. A bull's horn, the divine attribute identifying the king with Poseidon, rises from the forehead above the diadem. The portrait is set within a beaded border and displays the high-relief craftsmanship characteristic of early Hellenistic royal coinage. |

| Reverse description | Poseidon Pelagaios, nude, seated left upon a rocky promontory, his body turned slightly toward the viewer. In his extended right hand he holds an aphlaston (a curved stern ornament of a ship), while his left hand grasps an upright trident. To the inner left field, a monogram appears above the letter Z; a second monogram is placed in the inner right field. The legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ runs in the field, identifying the issuer as King Demetrius. The composition reflects the close association of Demetrius I with Poseidon as divine patron. |
