| Descrizione del dritto | Diademed and horned head of Demetrius I Poliorcetes in right-facing profile, the bull's horn emerging from his forehead as a divine attribute associating the king with Poseidon or Dionysus. The hair is rendered in fine, flowing locks swept back from the brow, with a broad diadem encircling the head. The portrait is executed in a vigorous Hellenistic style, conveying both the youth and heroic power of the king. The field is smooth and the flan edge slightly irregular, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Poseidon Pelagaios standing facing left in a bold contrapposto stance, nearly nude with a chlamys draped over his left arm and trailing behind him. The god raises his right foot onto a rock or prow, rests his right elbow upon his knee, and extends his right hand holding a trident, while his left arm bears the draped chlamys. To the left, the vertical legend ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ descends downward; to the right, the vertical legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ascends upward. A small monogram or control symbol appears in the left field. The composition conveys divine maritime authority befitting Demetrius's naval supremacy. |
