Obverse description Bare-headed, diademed and bearded effigy of King Attambelos II facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with individualized features. The royal diadem is depicted as a broad band tied across the forehead with visible striations, characteristic of the Characenian court style. The full beard is rendered with fine engraved striations falling in layered waves across the lower face and neck. The portrait is executed in high relief, occupying the majority of the flan, with the field largely plain and no surrounding legend on the obverse. The coin exhibits the irregular, somewhat roughly-struck character typical of bronze issues from the Characene kingdom of this period.
