正面描述 Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos facing right, rendered in the archaic New Style Athenian tradition. Athena wears a single-pendant earring and a necklace, with her imposing triple-crested Attic helmet elaborately decorated: the visor is adorned with the foreparts of four horses, a Pegasus in full flight to the right appears above the raised cheekpiece, and a curvilinear ornament embellishes the bowl. The portrait exhibits the refined engraving characteristic of New Style Athenian coinage of the late second century BC.

附加信息

This tetradrachm belongs to the so-called "New Style" Athenian series introduced around 166 BC, when Athens regained control of Delos from Rome and the city's mint resumed large-scale silver production after a long interruption. The magistrate names — Antiochos, Karaichos, and Egemo — identify the specific annual board responsible for this emission, a dating mechanism that makes New Style tetradrachms unusually well-documented among Hellenistic coinages. Margaret Thompson's 1961 corpus remains the definitive reference, and her numbering places this issue firmly within the mature phase of the series.
