| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos facing right, rendered in the archaic New Style Athenian tradition. Athena wears a single-pendant earring and a necklace, with her imposing triple-crested Attic helmet elaborately decorated: the visor is adorned with the foreparts of four horses, a Pegasus in full flight to the right appears above the raised cheekpiece, and a curvilinear ornament embellishes the bowl. The portrait exhibits the refined engraving characteristic of New Style Athenian coinage of the late second century BC. |
