正面描述 Highly stylized and schematically rendered helmeted bust of Athena facing right, executed in the abstract provincial manner characteristic of Arabian imitations of Athenian coinage. The helmet is reduced to bold, sweeping linear forms across the upper flan. Two crescent symbols are positioned on the cheek below the eye, a distinctive regional addition identifying this as a Lihyanite variant. The eye is rendered as a prominent pellet-within-oval device, a hallmark of this coinage series. The overall design reflects significant artistic divergence from the Athenian prototype, with local engraving conventions dominating the composition.

附加信息

The Lihyanites occupied the Dedan oasis region in what is now northwestern Saudi Arabia, controlling caravan routes that linked southern Arabia with the Levant and Egypt. Their coinage — including this type — was almost certainly derivative of Attic-weight tetradrachms circulating through Nabataean and Egyptian trade networks, adopted as a practical tool for commerce rather than as an assertion of royal authority in the Hellenistic sense.

The two-crescent variant places this piece outside the standard Huth 39 classification, suggesting either a separate die sequence or a workshop distinction not yet fully mapped in the literature. Lihyanite numismatics remains one of the least-studied corners of ancient Arabian coinage.
