Reverse description Deep incuse square of mill-sail (quadripartite) type, within which is inscribed a second recessed square frame containing a kantharos (two-handled wine cup) on a low foot, depicted in frontal view with finely rendered handles. The Greek magistrate's legend ΕΠ ΑΛΕΞΙΜΑΧΟ (meaning 'under Aleximachos') is distributed around the four sides of the inner square, reading partly within and partly outside the frame. The incuse technique, characteristic of early Abderite coinage, creates a striking contrast of raised and sunken relief across the reverse field.
