The Greek magistrate's legend ΕΠ ΑΛΕΞΙΜΑΧΟ (meaning 'under Aleximachos') is distributed around the four sides of the inner square, reading partly within and partly outside the frame. The incuse technique, characteristic of early Abderite coinage, creates a striking contrast of raised and sunken relief across the reverse field. |
