Obverse description Bare-necked bust of Athena in right profile, rendered with finely modelled facial features and flowing locks of hair visible beneath the helmet. The goddess wears a crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, the helmet bowl rendered with crisp detail and the long plume trailing elegantly to the left. The die-engraving is of high Hellenistic quality, with deeply cut relief and a naturalistic treatment of the face characteristic of the coinage of Side in Pamphylia. The field is plain and unlegended, with the portrait filling the flan in a bold and accomplished composition.
