| Description de l’avers | Bare head of Hermes facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style with delicately modeled facial features and softly curling hair falling beneath the brim of a petasos adorned with a prominent beaded band. The youthful, idealised effigy displays a gently aquiline profile with a well-defined eye, fleshy lips, and a rounded chin. The petasos brim is visible above the forehead, its rolled edge decorated with a distinctive row of pellets rendered in high relief. Curling locks emerge from beneath the hat and frame the face and nape, reflecting the accomplished die-engraving tradition of the Thracian mint. |

The ethnic inscription ΑΙΝΙΟΝ arcs above the animal in Greek characters, identifying the issuing city of Ainos in Thrace. In the right field, a single ear of barley with a long, sweeping stem serves as a secondary symbol or mint mark. The entire composition is contained within the characteristic incuse square typical of early Thraco-Macedonian coinage, framing the design elements with a crisp, recessed border. |
