| Beschrijving voorzijde | A biga (two-horse chariot) depicted in left-facing motion, driven by a charioteer rendered in archaic style, seated and holding a kentron (goad) and reins taut over the two horses shown in vigorous stride. The wheel of the chariot, with clearly articulated spokes, is visible in the lower left field. In the exergue below the ground line, a large olive leaf is depicted in relief, a civic symbol associated with Messana. The scene is enclosed within a beaded border, characteristic of early Sicilian coinage of the period. |
