| Obverse description | Facing left profile bust of Hermes rendered in fine early Classical style, the god depicted as a youthful, beardless male with naturalistic facial features. The head is surmounted by a broad-brimmed petasus, its brim delineated by a beaded border and the crown showing incised hatching to suggest the hat's texture. Strands of short hair emerge beneath the hat's rim, framing the ear and temple. The portrait occupies the full flan, with no legend or border, the bold relief and accomplished engraving characteristic of the finest Thracian coinage of the fifth century BC. |
