Myrina was one of the more prolific issuers of the so-called "Stephanophoric" tetradrachms produced across Asia Minor following the collapse of Seleucid dominance in the region. These coins circulated widely beyond their city of origin — hoards containing Myrinaean tetradrachms have been recovered as far afield as Syria and Egypt, suggesting they functioned as a transregional trade currency rather than a purely civic one. The Apollo type from this mint is closely associated with the local cult at Myrina, where Apollo held particular religious importance.
Sacks' die study identified meaningful variation across the series; #31 places this specimen within a discrete die grouping tied to the middle phase of production.
