The muscular forms of the mules are depicted with naturalistic energy, their legs extended in full gallop over a ground line. The scene occupies the full field of the flan, with no exergual inscription, reflecting the archaic artistic tradition of the Katanean mint in the early Classical period. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Nike, the winged goddess of victory, stands facing left in three-quarter view, draped in a flowing chiton with her large, finely detailed wings spread behind her. She extends her right arm forward, apparently holding a wreath or fillet, while her left arm hangs at her side. The ethnic legend ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΟΝ is inscribed in Greek characters to the right of the figure within the field, identifying the issuing city of Katane. The reverse is executed in a refined early Classical style, with careful attention to the drapery folds and feather details of the wings. |
