| Obverse description | A nude male charioteer rides a galloping mule biga to the right, leaning forward with arms outstretched to control the reins, rendered in vigorous relief characteristic of early Sicilian die-cutting. The muscular forms of the mules are depicted with naturalistic energy, their legs extended in full gallop over a ground line. The scene occupies the full field of the flan, with no exergual inscription, reflecting the archaic artistic tradition of the Katanean mint in the early Classical period. |
