| Obverse description | A charioteer drives a quadriga at full gallop to the right, grasping the reins of two horses in each hand and holding a kentron (goad) in his right hand. Nike flies left above the scene, extending a wreath to crown the charioteer in a gesture of victory. In the exergue below the groundline, a single grain ear is depicted, referencing the agricultural wealth of Sicily. The composition reflects the influence of Syracusan coinage and demonstrates a high standard of die-cutting skill characteristic of late fifth-century BC Sicilian mints. |
