Obverse description A stylized dove standing to the right in high relief, rendered with finely detailed feathering on the wings and body. The bird is depicted within a circular border, its head turned slightly upward with a naturalistic beak. To the upper left of the dove, the Punic legend MTV is inscribed in three characters, identifying the issuing city of Motya. The design reflects the Sicilian Greek artistic tradition adapted to Punic civic coinage of the late fifth century BC. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped at the edges, characteristic of hand-struck coinage of this period.
