| Obverse description | Laureate and bearded head of Zeus in right-facing profile, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style characteristic of Cyrenaican coinage. The hair falls in undulating curls behind the neck, and the beard is depicted with richly modelled, flowing locks. A laurel wreath crowns the head, its leaves and berries rendered in high relief. The portrait fills the flan, with no visible legend on this face, and the field shows the typical granular surface of a hammered flan. |

| Reverse description | A stylised silphium plant occupies the central field, depicted frontally with a tall central stalk bearing a flower-head at the apex and clusters of berries or fruit at the branching points, rendered in a schematic yet vivid manner. Two curling lateral branches extend to either side, each terminating in volute scrolls, while a broad leaf or spathe fans out below. The whole design is enclosed within a double incuse border of cable or dotted pattern, and the Greek legend BAP, abbreviating BARKAIΩΝ (of the Barkans), appears to the right of the stalk in the field. |
