Tetrachalkon Pellene

The Achaean League's bronze issues occupy an awkward position in ancient numismatics — federally produced but unevenly distributed, struck at member cities including Pellene, a small polis in the northeastern Peloponnese that punched above its weight in regional politics. Pellene had a complicated relationship with the League, having at various points aligned with Macedon before being pulled back into the federal orbit after Flamininus's settlements reshaped Greek power arrangements in the early second century.

HGC 5#133 is poorly represented in major collections, which makes condition assessment across the type genuinely difficult.
