Elaeusa-Sebaste, the coastal Cilician city whose double name reflects both its island origins and its Augustan-era refoundation, served as a regional mint under Antiochus IV during his intermittent rule over Commagene — a reign interrupted in 72 AD when Vespasian dissolved the kingdom entirely, annexing it into the province of Syria on accusations of conspiracy with Parthia. Whether those charges were genuine or a pretext for absorbing a strategically positioned buffer state remains debated. Antiochus IV ended his days in Rome, a pensioned exile.
