| Reverse description | Frontal facing bust of Empress Theodora, wearing a bejewelled crown with pendilia and elaborately ornamented imperial loros, richly decorated with pearls and gemstones. She holds a jewelled sceptre in her right hand and a globus cruciger in her left hand. The Greek legend + ΘΕΟW ΑVΓΟVC appears in the field to either side of the imperial effigy, identifying the empress by name and title. The flan is of the characteristic scyphate-transitional flat type associated with the tetarteron denomination of this period. |
