| Aanvullende informatie |
Olympia issued coinage only during the festival period itself — the games drew tens of thousands of visitors every four years, creating a concentrated, temporary demand for small-denomination silver that simply didn't exist between festivals. The tetartemorion, worth a quarter of an obol, was the smallest practical unit in the Greek monetary system, useful for minor transactions at the sanctuary markets. This particular issue spans the 91st through 94th Olympiads, a period bracketed by the Athenian disaster at Syracuse in 415–413 BC and the final collapse of Athenian naval power at Aegospotami in 404 BC.
