| Obverse description | Central field displays the elaborate Gothic castle emblem of Genoa — a tall, turreted gate with three towers rendered in high relief and framed within an ornate scrollwork cartouche of Renaissance style. The castle motif, the traditional civic arms of Genoa, is set against a flat field and surrounded by a beaded inner border. The circular legend in Latin runs along the outer rim, reading the titles of John Galeazzo Maria Sforza as Sixth Duke of Milan and Lord of Genoa. The lettering is bold and deeply struck, typical of late 15th-century Genoese hammered coinage. |
