(Translation: Henry II, by God's grace, king of the Franks.)
Reverse description Central crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis in heraldic arrangement, flanked on each side by a crowned Gothic capital H, each surmounted by a small royal crown, serving as the royal cipher of Henry II. The date 1552 appears in the upper field within the circular legend, and the mint mark S (for Troyes) is placed at the base of the shield. The circumferential Latin legend, separated by crosses and dots, reads XPS VINCIT XPS REGNAT XPS IMPE, invoking the Christological formula asserting Christ's victory, reign, and dominion. The milled border is sharply defined, consistent with the machine-struck production of this issue.
