The effigy is set within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend surrounding the portrait in the outer field. Flanking the shield are two crowned capital letters H, the royal cipher of Henry II, each accompanied by a small crown above. The date 1553 and the mint mark D for Lyon appear integrated within the surrounding legend, which is contained between two beaded circles. The composition reflects the classic Valois heraldic reverse design standard for testons of this reign. |
