The uppermost line bears the first half of the Islamic shahada, 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God); the second line carries the second half, 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the Messenger of God); and the third line names the nominal overlord 'Mahmud Khan', acknowledging Chaghatayid suzerainty.
