| Obverse description | Hammered silver tanka with a purely epigraphic design typical of Timurid coinage. The central field bears a three-line Arabic legend enclosed within a decorative cartouche or bordered panel, reading the royal title and ruler's name. The upper portion of the field carries the honorific 'al-Sultan al-A'zam' (The Greatest Sultan), the middle line bears the name 'Timur Gurkan', and the lower line records the mint name 'Zarb Salmas' (struck at Salmas). The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production, and the overall strike shows characteristic Timurid calligraphic craftsmanship in Naskh script. |
