| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bearing multi-line Arabic calligraphic inscription in the typical Jalayirid hammered style, with text arranged in horizontal registers across the flan. A decorative scroll or wave border element runs along the lower margin of the coin. The striking is characteristic of late Jalayirid coinage, with raised bold script occupying the majority of the field and the irregular flan exhibiting typical die-struck weakness at the peripheries. |

The Jalayirid Sultanate was in terminal collapse by the early 1420s. Shah Muhammad — the last recognized Jalayirid ruler — held a precarious grip on Basra while Timurid and Qara Qoyunlu forces had already dismembered the dynasty's former domains. Coins struck in his name from Basra represent the final gasps of a dynasty that had ruled Iraq and western Persia since the mid-14th century.
The fractional tanka denomination itself reflects constrained minting capacity rather than planned monetary policy.
