Reverse description Central field displaying a multi-line Arabic calligraphic legend in angular, bold script, arranged in horizontal registers typical of Jalayirid silver coinage struck at Basra. The inscription references the ruler's name and titles, consistent with the formulaic religious and dynastic legends employed by Shah Muhammad. The flan is irregular and somewhat broader than deep, with characteristic flat areas at the margins resulting from the hand-hammering technique.

Additional information

The Jalayirid Sultanate was in terminal collapse by the early 1420s. Shah Muhammad — the last recognized Jalayirid ruler — held a precarious grip on Basra while Timurid and Qara Qoyunlu forces had already dismembered the dynasty's former domains. Coins struck in his name from Basra represent the final gasps of a dynasty that had ruled Iraq and western Persia since the mid-14th century.

The fractional tanka denomination itself reflects constrained minting capacity rather than planned monetary policy.
