| Obverse description | Applied countermark of type C16, struck within a raised beaded circle on the obverse field of a Danish 2 Skilling host coin. The countermark bears the incuse initials 'STM' (Sint Maarten) in Latin capital letters, the beaded border serving as the formal boundary of the applied stamp. The host coin's original design is largely obscured or distorted by the countermarking process, with only remnants of the underlying Danish type visible in the surrounding field. The countermark is applied slightly off-center, a characteristic commonly encountered on emergency currency issues of this Caribbean colonial series. |
