The design is characteristic of the Iron Age Celtic tradition, in which the original laureate head of Apollo has been progressively stylised into a series of geometric pellet groupings. The flan is irregularly shaped and slightly convex, with a broadly flat field typical of hand-struck Celtic coinage. |
