The effigy is depicted with individualized facial features including a prominent nose and defined chin, with drapery visible at the truncation. The circumferential Greek legend ΒΑCΙΛΕΩC CΑΥΡΟΜΑΤΟΥ (of King Sauromates) runs around the periphery, enclosed within a beaded border. The style reflects the hybrid Greco-Barbarian artistic tradition characteristic of Bosporan royal coinage of the late second century AD. |
