Pharnakes II — son of Mithridates VI — briefly reclaimed Pontus and the Bosporan Kingdom from Rome after his victory at Nicopolis in 48 BC, prompting Caesar's famously dismissive "veni, vidi, vici" after crushing him at Zela the following year.
