| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Pharnakes II facing right, portrayed in the Hellenistic royal tradition with richly rendered curling locks of hair falling behind the ear and over the neck. The royal diadem is tied across the forehead, its ends visible behind the neck. The portrait is executed with fine relief and expressive naturalism characteristic of late Pontic royal coinage, the facial features exhibiting a youthful, idealized quality. The field is plain, with no legend on the obverse. |

The Greek royal legend BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY ΦAPNAKOY (of the Great King of Kings Pharnakes) is distributed in the field and around the figure, accompanied by the monogram EMΣ and an additional control monogram behind the deity. |
