| Additional information |
Nikokreon was the last king of Salamis, the dominant city-kingdom on Cyprus through much of the classical period. His reign ended around 310 BC when Ptolemy I moved to consolidate control over the island; facing defeat, Nikokreon reportedly took his own life, and his family followed. The kingdom of Salamis ceased to exist as an independent political entity at that moment.
Gold issues under Nikokreon are rare precisely because the reign's final years were consumed by that conflict with Ptolemy's forces.
