背面描述 A stag standing to left in a grazing attitude, with head lowered toward the ground, rendered in fine detail. Above and below the stag appear the royal Greek inscription in two or three lines. To the left of the stag's head, a star rests upon a crescent, a dynastic emblem of the Pontic royal house. To the right of the main device appears a control monogram. The entire composition is enclosed within a circular ivy wreath, a symbol associated with Dionysus and characteristic of Pontic royal gold coinage.

附加信息

Mithridates VI struck this gold issue at Pergamon following his seizure of the city in 89 BC, capitalizing on the First Mithridatic War's opening momentum and the mass defection of Roman Asia to his cause. The mint at Pergamon was among the most technically sophisticated in the Hellenistic world, and Mithridates was quick to exploit it — both for propaganda and to pay his considerable armies.

The issue falls within the single year Pontic forces held Pergamon before Roman retaliation stiffened. That narrow window makes the series inherently short-lived.
