Beschrijving voorzijde Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, wearing the horn of Ammon curling above his ear, a divine attribute linking him to Zeus-Ammon. The effigy is rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing, wavy hair swept back from the forehead and secured by a royal diadem. The facial features are idealised yet vigorous, with a strong jaw and prominent brow characteristic of posthumous Lysimachean portraiture. The field is plain, with no additional symbols or inscriptions.

Beschrijving keerzijde Athena Nikephoros seated left on a throne, wearing a crested helmet, draped and cuirassed, her right hand extended to receive a small Nike who crowns her, and her left arm resting on a large round shield decorated with a gorgoneion. A long spear leans against her left shoulder. To the left of the throne, a monogram of Byzantion (BY) appears in the lower field, while the Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to the right and ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ to the left frame the central type. The composition follows the standard reverse type established by Lysimachus for his royal gold coinage.

Byzantion struck gold staters in the name of Lysimachus decades after his death at Corupedium in 281 BC, a practice that had become widespread among cities seeking to leverage the commercial prestige of his coinage across Aegean trade networks. By the early second century, such posthumous issues functioned almost as a trusted currency brand rather than a political statement — Lysimachus himself had been dead for nearly a century when this piece was struck.
