The effigy bears the small curling horn of Ammon at the temple, signifying Alexander's divine association with the Egyptian god Zeus-Ammon, as established following his visit to the oracle at Siwa. The portrait displays finely modeled facial features with a prominent brow, strong nose, and slightly parted lips, characteristic of the posthumous coinage struck in Alexander's name by the Diadochi.
