| Descrizione del dritto | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, rendered in high relief in the fine Hellenistic style. The goddess wears a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, adorned with a prominent transverse crest and a coiled serpent on the bowl. Flowing locks of hair curl freely beneath the helmet and fall onto the neck, framing the finely modelled profile. The facial features are rendered with exceptional artistry, characteristic of the Macedonian royal mint tradition. |

In her extended right hand she holds a wreath, and in her left hand she carries a stylis (naval standard). The inscription ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field, identifying the issue as struck in the name of Alexander. In the left field, the mint control mark TI appears above a bee, serving as the identifying symbol of the Sardes mint during this emission. |
